The Spine in the Ass wins the Expo 2015 sculpture award curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, held at Expo 2015 in Milan.
The work, from 2014, in tuscan white marble, is part of my research that investigates and develops the synthesis between the natural and animal world. The form, suggested by the study of the plant world, draws inspiration from this to become something else, not to be imitation but elaboration of a concept of nature that spans and connects to several known worlds. My aim is to create a gap between what is known and what is represented by leading the viewer to recognize certain family characteristics, but preventing a real placement.
The critic P.Colacitti writes: (...) Antonella is aware that the image is in the mind of the artist and that she can not make any mistakes. He chose the most difficult material. (...) He chooses a style that reduces to the essential minimalism the human figure with a mental geometry of poetic impact, in a harmonious dualism man-nature. Man's backs, hugs, solitary poses and inverted fragments, nature branches and leaves, tree trunks and woods reduced to spontaneous games devoid of any ornament. Antonella assimilates Cubist geometry and futurist dynamism for an unrealistic and anticlassical figuration, sublimated by the mind to the limit of abstractism (...).
